If you’re looking for a charming coastal getaway on the East Coast, let me introduce you to Wilmington, one of the most underrated travel destinations I’ve visited.
Nestled along the Cape Fear River and just minutes from beautiful beaches, Wilmington blends historic charm, cozy cafés, and scenic coastal views. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing weekend trip that feels both peaceful and inspiring.
I visited in October, and it truly felt like the ideal time to go. The weather was mild, the crowds were minimal, and the entire experience felt slower and more intentional. If you’re planning a visit, I highly recommend going in the fall. As an added bonus, we found free parking on Saturday, which made exploring the city even easier.
Where to Eat in Wilmington
Breakfast at Blueberry’s Grill
One of my first stops was Blueberry’s Grill, a well-loved local spot that absolutely lives up to its reputation. The space feels warm and inviting, creating a comfortable atmosphere to start your day.
Although there was a bit of a wait, it was well worth it. The menu offers a great balance of classic and seasonal options.

What to order:
Blueberry pancakes, which are light, fluffy, and full of fresh flavor
Savory omelets made with seasonal ingredients
Fresh coffee, especially appreciated after an early travel morning
It’s best to arrive early or plan ahead, as this is a popular spot that fills up quickly.
Coffee at Casablanca Coffee and Tea

For a slower moment in the day, Casablanca Coffee and Tea is the perfect stop. The atmosphere is thoughtfully designed, with warm lighting and a cozy aesthetic that makes it easy to stay longer than planned.

The smell of fresh coffee, combined with the relaxed environment, creates a space that feels both creative and calm.
What I ordered:
A specialty latte
A breakfast burrito that was both flavorful and filling
It’s an ideal place to sit, journal, or map out the rest of your day in Wilmington.

Visiting “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Filming Locations
After watching The Summer I Turned Pretty, I was especially drawn to explore some of the filming locations around Wilmington. Seeing these places in person added a unique layer to the experience, especially if you appreciate that soft, coastal, cinematic atmosphere.
Sunset Views You Shouldn’t Miss
One of the most memorable parts of the trip was watching the sunset. The sky transformed into soft gradients of orange, pink, and purple, creating a view that felt almost painterly.
If you’re planning your itinerary, make sure to set aside time for sunset. Some simple ways to enjoy it:
Visit the beach in the evening
Walk toward marsh areas for a different perspective
Bring a camera or your phone to capture the moment

Travel Essentials
For this trip, I used the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS. It’s lightweight, easy to travel with, and captures colors beautifully, which made it perfect for documenting coastal scenery.
Final Thoughts
Although this was a short weekend trip, Wilmington left a lasting impression. It’s a place that offers a thoughtful balance of natural beauty, good food, and a slower pace that invites you to be present.
If you’re looking for a coastal destination that feels relaxed but still full of character, Wilmington is well worth visiting. I’m already looking forward to returning and discovering more of what this city has to offer.
Shop the Coastal Aesthetic
If you’re drawn to the soft, coastal aesthetic of this trip, consider incorporating similar elements into your own space. Neutral tones, organic textures, and minimal coastal accents can recreate that same sense of calm at home.
